Manchester United ready to fight city rivals for £60million-rated midfield powerhouse

Ruben Neves of Wolves has been linked with a transfer move to Manchester United and Arsenal.
Ruben Neves of Wolves has been linked with a transfer move to Manchester United and Arsenal.

Manchester United will challenge Manchester City for Ruben Neves in the winter window, provided the Cityzens bid for him, according to the Metro.

The report adds that United manager Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of Neves and the pair also shares the same agent Jorge Mendes.

City’s failure to land Jorginho in the summer window could see them move for Neves in January. The report adds that United would have preferred to wait before moving for the Portuguese star but will counter any offer Guardiola puts up for the 21-year-old.

Neves joined Wolverhampton Wanderers for £15.8m last season, as per the Metro, and he signed a five-year deal to stay at the club.

Guardiola has been impressed with the passing range of the 21-year-old and sees him as a replacement for Fernandinho, as per the Metro. The report adds that the 21-year-old is rated at £60m.

Neves has scored a goal and provided an assist in four Premier League games for the newly-promoted side this season and has looked impressive in the heart of the park.

The report further claims that Mendes has clients such as Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Nicolas Otamendi at City and he helped them sign the goalkeeper from Benfica.

Neves would be an excellent signing and he has a number of years to get better. We only signed Fred for our midfield in the summer but a trio of Paul Pogba, Fred and Neves could turn out to be one of the best in the world.
