Manchester United interested in signing €75million-rated World Cup winner

Manchester United are interested in signing Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid, according to France Football (h/t ESPN).

The 22-year-old was part of the France squad that lifted the World Cup in Russia and the report claims that Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the left-back.

The Frenchman has a €75million (h/t ESPN) release clause with the La Liga side, as per the report. Hernandez had signed a new long-term deal with Atletico a few months ago but the report suggests that will not stop clubs from bidding for the rising star in January.

United didn’t set the world alight with their transfer dealings in the summer window. The Red Devils brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant but missed out on many defensive targets, as claimed by ESPN.

Hernandez is a quality left-back but we already have someone doing a decent job in that role. Luke Shaw has been one of the best United players this season and he even bagged a spot in the England side for the upcoming international games.

The former Southampton star hasn’t made many mistakes but bringing in Hernandez would certainly increase the competition for that position.

Ashley Young cannot be shoehorned into that role much longer, although he did a remarkable job last season.

It will be interesting to see if we are willing to pay his release clause but Hernandez is certainly one of the rising stars in French football and would do well at any club.
