Former England striker believes Man United youngster has to move away to fulfill potential

Ian Wright claims Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has massive decisions to make about his future in the coming year.

The English striker hasn’t been a regular starter under Jose Mourinho and his last appearance saw him getting red carded for a headbutt to Phil Bardsley.

Rashford has often played out wide but Wright believes the youngster needs to play regularly as the central striker.

The former Arsenal striker was speaking on BBC Radio 5 (h/t Metro) and praised Rashford’s entry into the world of football. However, Wright questioned his positioning by United:

“Now, what’s happened to him since he’s been at United on the left or the right, wherever they play him, he’s played everywhere apart from up front learning his trade.

“He’s got pace, he’s got skill, he’s got finishing ability. He’s been playing in roles that have taken the edge of those sides of his game.”

The Englishman claimed Rashford has big decisions to make and could move to another club in hopes of playing centrally.

“He’s either got to leave Manchester United and play, and play in a position where he’s going to start to be that player we all thought he was going to be when he burst onto the scene, scoring goals left, right and centre every competition he has played in.

“Or he’s going to have to stay there, whether it’s Mourinho or whoever it is, and maybe playing on the left, maybe playing on the right, maybe playing up front.”

Rashford started just 17 Premier League games for us last season but he still managed to contribute with seven goals and five assists.

The youngster does need to play more football but letting him join another club would be a huge error from the management’s side.
