Manchester United interested in signing Chelsea’s 23-year-old starlet

French newspaper L’Equipe (h/t Express) claim that Manchester United are interested in signing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

The report adds that the club is in talks with the London side over a deal for the 23-year-old, as a number of our targets have not joined United yet.

United want to sign the Chelsea defender on a permanent deal and Everton are also interested in the 23-year-old, according to the report. Zouma spent last season on loan with Stoke City but he had to deal with relegation.

The French defender was signed for Chelsea by Jose Mourinho when the Portuguese was in charge of the club. The report adds that the United manager wants powerful centre-backs.

United have had a trying time when it comes to signing defenders, as the report adds that Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire are expensive. Yerry Mina’s agent has made the move for the player difficult and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng has declined a move, claims Express.

Jose Mourinho

Mourinho has signed three players in the transfer window but has been unlucky in his hunt for a central defender.

Zouma is not as big a name as that of Maguire or Alderweireld and he is not someone who is better than the current crop of defenders at Old Trafford.

However, if Mourinho wants a defender at all costs, Zouma could be a cut-price option for United. Mourinho would know a lot about the player as they’ve worked together at Chelsea and under the Portuguese, we might see the best of the 23-year-old.
