“Come home now son” – Man United fans urge club to re-sign famous £14m attacker

This World Cup certainly has seen its fair share of shock results with the likes of Germany losing to Mexico and Argentina drawing against Iceland. Another one took place as well, as Japan took on Colombia.

The South American side were expected to breeze past their Asian opponents but a sixth-minute penalty converted by Shinji Kagawa, the former Manchester United player, got things rolling for the Japanese.

Carlos Sanchez was sent off for a handball which led to the penalty but Colombia didn’t let that bring them down as they scored via a smart free-kick from Juan Quintero.

Just when it looked like the South Americans would hold on for a point, Yuya Osako scored in the 73rd minute to ensure Japan collected all three points.

This was the first time an Asian team had defeated a South American one in World Cup history and our old boy, Kagawa was at the middle of it all.

We signed the star midfielder from Borussia Dortmund in 2012 for around £14m and even though he picked up the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season, he didn’t live up to his billing and was sold just two years later to his old club.

Even at 29, Kagawa is doing a fantastic job with the national side and Dortmund, and here’s how the Man United fans reacted to Shinji’s performance.
