Manchester United looking to sign 23-year-old Swiss star as Matteo Darmian’s replacement

Manchester United are keeping an eye on former Newcastle United defender Kevin Mbabu according to Fussball (h/t The Express).

The 23-year-old Swiss star was a part of the Young Boys team that picked up the 2017/18 Swiss Super League and had even spent time on loan at Rangers.

The Express also claims that Jose Mourinho would be looking at more options for the right-back slot even after signing Diogo Dalot.

One player expected to leave Old Trafford is Matteo Darmian, who has been linked with a return to Italy with Scudetto winners Juventus linked with the defender. Mourinho is reportedly eyeing Mbabu as a replacement for the Italian defender.

That would only leave Antonio Valencia as our right-back for next season and with the former Wigan man turned 33, we will need to invest in this position.

Mbabu also scored a couple of goals and provided an assist for the Swiss club last season as they picked up their first league title in 30 years. We are not the only club looking to sign the Swiss youngster as AC Milan are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

United have been very active in the transfer window as the club has completed the deals for Dalot and also Brazil’s Fred. We seem to be doing the right thing in strengthening those areas of the pitch where we did not have a lot of options this past season.

With Darmian struggling to perform last season, he only managed to play 17 games for the Red Devils. Hence, bringing in a young player could work out for us as Mourinho can mould the player to his liking.

Mbabu might come on the cheap too and even though he only has limited Premier League experience, he could be a decent option for us next season.
