Blow for Manchester United as €35m target chooses Barcelona – report

Clement Lenglet prefers a move to Barcelona over Manchester United, according to reports coming from Spain. Diario Goal (h/t The Express) claims that the Sevilla man believes his style of play would be a perfect match for the La Liga champions, however, there are a couple of factors that interest the 22-year-old to move to Old Trafford.

The report adds that the French defender would earn much more at United and would also slot straight into the starting XI at Old Trafford, something that has piqued the interest of Lenglet. The Express also goes on to report that Jose Mourinho has made an official approach for the central defender.

Lenglet made 51 appearances for Sevilla last season and even scored 4 goals for the La Liga club as they finished 7th in the league standings.

Staying in Spain has its pros and cons

Signing for Barcelona from Sevilla obviously has its own positives as the player would not have to move to another country. Lenglet would also be familiar with the style of play in the league.

Additionally, there is also the chance of picking up silverware rather easily with Barca when compared to joining any of the big Premier League clubs.

However, if the defender does want to become one of the best in the world, he has to play every week and that could be a possibility with us as we could partner the talented youngster with Eric Bailly next season.

At Barcelona, he would possibly be behind Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique, hence, regular playing time would not be easy to get.

Lenglet’s release clause of €35m isn’t too high and with us having already signed Fred and Diogo Dalot, bringing in the French defender would certainly make our defence rock solid next season.
