Final Score: Manchester United 1-0 Watford

Manchester United rounded off their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Watford. There really wasn’t much riding on this game as the Hornets were safe in mid-table while we were keeping an eye on the FA Cup final which is against Chelsea in a week’s time.

The one sub-plot to this match was that Michael Carrick was playing his final game and it was emotional at Old Trafford, to say the least.

It was fitting that the former Tottenham man was involved in the only goal of the game as he played a ball to Juan Mata, who setup Marcus Rashford for the winner.

Jose Mourinho even stated after the game that he could see Carrick become his assistant in the future and that the Englishman was joining the United coaching staff after the season. While Rashford got the goal, there were a few players who impressed and might stake a claim in the starting XI for the FA Cup final.

Manchester United Player Ratings

Sergio Romero – 7/10

Romero didn’t have much to do throughout the game but did make a great save off Richarlison in the first half.

Matteo Darmian – 6.5/10

The Argentine did pretty well down the flank as he bombed up in support of the attack.

Eric Bailly – 8/10

This was a monster performance from Bailly as he regularly intercepted the ball and looked composed when passing it around.

Marcos Rojo – 6/10

Not the greatest of games from the Argentine as he got booked needlessly for a rather poor challenge.

Daley Blind – 6/10

Another player who didn’t really do much in his role in midfield. Blind seemed off the pace for some reason.

Ashley Young – 7/10

It was not surprising that Young was booed by many of the Watford fans but the Englishman did not let that faze him as he gave a typical Young-ish performance.

Michael Carrick – 9/10

Carrick was supreme in midfield and his pass for the goal was just perfect. It is sad to see him retire but at least we are set to keep him as a coach.

Michael Carrick

Juan Mata – 6.5/10

While the Spaniard did set up Rashford, he should have done a lot more to carve open a static Watford side.

Scott McTominay – 6.5/10

The youngster didn’t take any risks at the back and did pretty well, though many would have expected more from him.

Marcus Rashford – 7/10

Rashford’s goal could be important as he looks to start in the FA Cup final and hopefully, he will have an impact for us against Chelsea.

Alexis Sanchez – 7/10

Sanchez was once again full of running but that was it from the Chilean. Mourinho and all the fans at Old Trafford would have expected more from the former Arsenal man.

Substitutes

Luke Shaw – 5/10

A typical scene even on the final day as Mourinho was constantly providing tips to Shaw.

Ander Herrera – 5/10

Herrera did what he does best and that is run around and make it difficult for the opposition.

Paul Pogba – N/A

It was too late to make an impact on the game when he came on to replace Carrick.
