As per a report from Daily Star, Manchester United have been shortlisted as the bookies’ favourites to sign Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.

The report claims that United are long-term admirers of the former Tottenham superstar and if Jose Mourinho plays his cards right, the talented Welshman could be at Old Trafford next term.

Despite boasting of ample experience and abundant talent, Bale has failed to make a strong impact in the ongoing campaign. He has been in and out of injuries and his form, in general, has been far from satisfactory. However, that does not undermine his talent and at 28 years of age, he still has a lot of magic to offer.

Although he has lacked his incisive qualities this season, Bale has still managed to provide a decent return of 15 goals and 4 assists across competitions for the La Liga giants.

Bookies Coral’s John Hill was quoted by Starsport (h/t Daily Star) as he spoke about United’s chances of landing Bale.

“Despite scoring in El Clasico, Gareth Bale continues to be linked with a move away from Real Madrid. And it is Manchester United that punters are backing to sign the Welshman this summer.”

Mourinho currently has the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford at his disposal and the inclusion of Bale could be surplus to requirement.

However, with the summer window coming up, it remains to be seen if either of these stars chooses to leave the club at the end of the season.

In that case, an experienced and skilled performer like Bale could be a valuable addition to our side. But given his never-ending list of injuries, will he be worth the price? It remains to be seen.
