Manchester United willing to swap De Gea for Ronaldo but Real Madrid offer Bale – Spanish reports

Spanish media outlet Don Balon have claimed that Manchester United are looking to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid and will let either Paul Pogba or David de Gea leave on a swap deal. Our manager wants to sign Ronaldo and is willing to spend £64m for the Portuguese legend if necessary. However, the report claims that Real could be tempted by a swap deal offer.

Don Balon’s report carried by the Daily Star claims that Real have offered Welshman Gareth Bale instead. However, his form has not been that great this season for the La Liga side and United are not interested in the former Tottenham man.

The report further suggests that Real are not interested in Paul Pogba. It seems logical as Real Madrid already have top quality central midfielders in their squad. There are other areas which they may have to strengthen but their midfield looks fine.

David De Gea

Ronaldo has picked up his goal scoring form in the last two months or so and was on target in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Juventus. In the second leg, the Portuguese scored a last minute penalty to take the defending champions through to the semi-finals.

Real now face Bayern, against whom they have a decent record in recent years. Ronaldo has scored 15 goals in the Champions League and 23 goals in La Liga. He might be 33 but there still is a lot of quality left in the Portuguese attacker.

However, considering that David De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, I feel that it would be disastrous for us to let him leave the club, even if it’s on a swap deal. He’s virtually irreplaceable, isn’t he?
