ESPN pundit Craig Burley claims Mourinho could walk out of Man United if club sell De Gea

According to ESPN pundit Craig Burley, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho would walk out of the club if the Premier League heavyweights decide to sell star goalkeeper David De Gea. However, Burley expects De Gea to stay at Old Trafford amidst interest from Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the last couple of seasons and the star goalkeeper came close to joining the La Liga giants in 2015.

However, according to the Daily Star, Real are eyeing another attempt to sign the 27-year-old from United. The report adds that Los Blancos are looking to sign De Gea to replace Keylor Navas, who is not considered good enough to ply his trade at the Santiago Bernabeu.

De Gea has been Manchester United’s best player for the last few seasons. Due to his amazing reflexes and shot-stopping abilities, the Spaniard has arguably established himself as the best goalkeeper on the planet.

Burley feels that De Gea’s departure would leave Mourinho furious, which could even see the Portuguese exit United next season.

“I think De Gea will stay,” Burley told ESPN FC.

“If Man Utd sell him, Mourinho could walk. He is their best player. They can’t afford to allow him to go to Real Madrid. They don’t need the money.”

According to The Sun (h/t Daily Star), De Gea is set to sign a new long-term contract at United. The report claims that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure to LA Galaxy has freed up a wage bill at United and De Gea will be offered an eye-watering £350,000-a-week deal.

The report claims that United are desperate to see their star shot-stopper commit his future to the club before the World Cup in Russia.
