Manchester United might be struggling a bit to play like the United of the old and even though we have signed a number of top class players, there are a few who believe that we don’t have world-class players in the side.
Paul Ince, the former United striker is of that opinion and even stated that only David de Gea is world-class while the likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial could become world-class some day.
Ince was quoted by the Daily Star and stated:
“David De Gea is the only world class player at Manchester United – Paul Pogba isn’t there yet.
“Him and Anthony Martial have the potential to be, but there’s still some way to go.”
The former Blackburn Rovers manager also added that United fans expect their club to play in a certain way, something which this Jose Mourinho side has not done at all.
“Fans of the club have an expectation of how they expect the team to play – and they just aren’t doing it at the minute.
“If United carry on playing the way they are, and forcing Pogba to play as a defensive player, you’re going to get supporters turning against you.”
United are only a couple of points ahead of Liverpool as they look to seal a top two spot but things will not be easy as we have struggled to break teams down and more importantly, we still have a tough Champions League second leg against Sevilla at Old Trafford.
Ince does have a point though, Pogba and Martial both have struggled to star for us this season and the French duo needs to pull its socks up if we are to even think of challenging for the title next season.
Pogba has been one player who has had the limelight on him since moving back to United from Juventus and there has been a bit of a fallout under Mourinho.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from United while Martial’s contract extension seems to have hit a bit of a roadblock too. Mourinho does have a lot of things going on at the club and the last thing he would need are two of his best, young players to leave in the summer.
Pogba and Martial are world beaters on their day but we haven’t seen those kind of performances this season all too often. Ince certainly is right in saying De Gea is the only world-class performer as we have too many big names failing to perform consistently.
