Manchester United preparing £14million-a-year offer for club superstar to ward off Real Madrid interest

Manchester United are planning to offer David De Gea a new contract which will see the goalkeeper earn wages of £14million-a-year, according to Goal. De Gea has established himself as a key player and also as a leader of our squad and he is certainly one player who we would love to keep at our club for the long-term.

Following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, De Gea has been one of our best performers and he has won the club’s player of the year award in 2013-14,2014-15 and 2015-16.

After Jose Mourinho became our manager in 2016, he said:

“If season after season the goalkeeper is Player of the Season, it means that something is wrong. Hopefully he’s not player of the season this season but hopefully he keeps making important saves for us.”

The keeper has, however, attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid who he nearly joined in 2015. Los Blancos have been poor by their standards this season and they are expected to undergo a squad overhaul at the end of the season. One of the players who they are likely to replace is current first-choice keeper Keylor Navas.

De Gea has firmly established himself as one of the best keepers in the world and this makes him a key target for Madrid who have a reputation of forking out large amounts of money in order to sign the world’s best players.

Madrid have been long-time admirers of our number one and they nearly signed him in 2015 before the move failed due to various reasons.

Even though he has been with us since 2011, De Gea could be tempted to move to Madrid as it could offer him an opportunity to return to his native Spain as well as play for one of the biggest clubs in the country.

However, I feel that with the right pay package and the temptation of the captain’s armband, De Gea might just get convinced to stay at Old Trafford.
