Manchester United targeting £35m Ligue 1 star as Paul Pogba replacement

Manchester United have been having a few teething issues with their star man Paul Pogba. The former Juventus star has not hit it well with Jose Mourinho this season, regarding his game time and also his position, and there have been talks of him leaving the club in the summer.

This is where it gets a little weird as a report from the Daily Mirror claims that we are looking to replace Pogba, or at least bring in someone who can play in the heart of midfield. The replacement seems to be Jean-Michael Seri.

The Nice star was linked with a major money move to join Barcelona at the start of the season but that deal fell apart at the last minute. The report also claims that we have made contact with Seri’s agent as we ramp up our work in finding a quality replacement for Pogba.

Seri is only 26 at the moment and had one of his best seasons for Nice last time around. It was expected that they would be playing Champions League football this time around but were knocked out in the qualifying round and took part in the Europa League.

The midfielder mostly plays a deeper role and is known for his energy and drives into the box. Seri isn’t a completely defensive midfielder and his dynamic nature could be the perfect answer for our midfield, which has looked a little lacklustre at times.

The Ivorian does have a rather low release clause, which is reportedly just £35m. That amount is nothing compared to the obscene amounts paid in the Premier League at the moment and bringing Seri in would be extremely tidy business from Mourinho and the rest of the team.

Of course, there are a number of factors which would decide if we do sign Seri and there would be a few clubs that would also try to barge in our deal, which would drive the Nice midfielder’s price up.

However, there is also the fact that Seri has not played in a league as demanding and robust as the Premier League and hopefully, we don’t end up spending millions on a player that just cannot cut it in England.
