Manchester United ready to meet Barcelona star’s £53m release clause – Spanish reports

Manchester United’s chase for Samuel Umtiti might just about work out in the end, as a report from Don Balon (h/t Sky Sports) claims that we are willing to meet his release clause. The Frenchman is unhappy with his current contract situation at Barcelona and the La Liga club might have to let go of a few players to keep their books in check.

The report suggests that Lionel Messi’s new deal has pushed the La Liga side over the edge and with Umtiti looking for a better deal, they might be resigned to losing him to Jose Mourinho as we are ready to activate his release clause of £53m.

The 24-year-old has been impressive ever since he made the move to the Camp Nou but Barcelona are always the Lionel Messi club and they have often been in the news for their financial problems. It would not be a surprise if they do sell some of their current stars.

Umtiti is one of the best young defenders in the world and losing him would be a big blow for the Catalans. But is he the right man for us?

A Brilliant Signing For The Future And Present

There is no doubt that signing Umtiti would be a great move for us. The Frenchman is brilliant on the ball and has no weaknesses as such. He would also end up working with one of the best managers in the world and Mourinho will make him a much better defender, there are no two ways about it.

The big question is whether Barcelona would let him go with his £53m release clause. The Catalans might just negotiate a new contract with him and then put him on the transfer market so that we have to pay a lot more.

That seems unlikely given that the La Liga giants don’t have a lot of quality defenders. It would make more sense for them to lose players such as Andre Gomes rather than Umtiti.

Don Balon don’t have the best reputation when it comes to rumours like this but it will be interesting to see just how this goes in the summer.
