Manchester United in advanced talks to sign former Barcelona star’s son for £10million – reports

Manchester United are in “advanced talks” to sign 18-year-old forward Justin Kluivert from Ajax in the summer, according to various reports. United boss Jose Mourinho has been tracking the 18-year-old’s development for the past year and is keen to sign the starlet in the summer once the transfer window reopens.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Red Devils are ready to agree to a fee of around £10million with various add-ons to sign Kluivert. It is no surprise to see United interested in Kluivert as Mourinho is understood to be a long-term admirer of the player.

Last season when United defeated Ajax 2-0 to lift the Europa League in Stockholm, Mourinho was snapped speaking and having a light time with Kluivert. The report adds that the United manager has known the teenager since he was a little boy, as Justin used to attend Barcelona games to watch his dad Patrick play for the Blaugrana.

Mourinho was Barcelona’s assistant coach during Patrick’s spell then and has since taken a special interest in Justin’s development.

“He just liked to see me. Mourinho knows me from the time that I was a little boy and my father played at Barcelona when Mourinho worked there as an assistant trainer,” Justin was quoted by the Daily Mail.

As understood, Justin could be enthusiastic at the prospect of moving to the Premier League with United interested in signing the promising winger after the end of the season.

Justin made his debut for Ajax as a 17-year-old and has played 29 times for the first team, scoring 7 goals in the league.

Predominantly a left-winger, Kluivert is very quick and offers a huge threat to the defenders with his dribbling abilities. He is nippy, agile and at just 18, his decision-making is top notch and will only develop as he plays more.

The prospect of Justin joining United is exciting but the main question arises – where would he play? Mourinho currently has an array of attackers, and with United signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last month, there are serious doubts on whether the young winger would fit in.

However, Justin would also have reservations about making a move to the Premier League so early, especially to United, given the fact that the club are heavily stacked in terms of attacking talents.
