From the high of expecting a number of trophies, including the Premier League this season, we seem to be struggling now to break teams down, as we were held to a third draw in a row.

The frustration of not being able to beat a Southampton team that lost 5-2 at the hands of Tottenham seems to be getting to the fans and our performances will be more laboured in the upcoming games as Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are major doubts for the next set of games.

Ashley Young too might face some action from the FA after he was caught elbowing a Saints player but with all this going on, Jose Mourinho didn’t seem to be a frustrated figure when asked about the future plans of the side given that the transfer window open.

The Portuguese had spoken about not being able to match the spending of Manchester City but he seemed to be happy with what we have at the moment.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the United boss said:

“I really don’t know but I am happy with the players and the attitudes and desires and I have no complaints about my players.”

That seems to be in stark contrast on what he was saying a few days ago and it might just be a ploy to get some more money from the board as even the likes of Liverpool are spending huge in the transfer window.

Mourinho has often spoken out about not being able to buy players due to the rising prices in the transfer market but our board has let him splash the cash when it comes to the signings of Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, just to name a couple of big money players.

Further, the likes of Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof have not been cheap and the problem lies with the fact that we are not playing the kind of football which we should be known for.

We are not expansive and we are not attacking at the same rate at which we did under Sir Alex Ferguson. Even after spending millions on big attacking players, we seem to be playing a defensive style of football when we should be blowing away teams at Old Trafford.

Mourinho does have a lot of work on his hands if he wants to catch City next season but if he does not tweak his tactics, we will fall further behind the others too and even with millions of pounds of spending, we will be back to square one.
