Man United Put On Transfer Alert As Jan Oblak Fuels Speculations On Griezmann’s Exit

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has fuelled further speculation over the future of star forward and teammate Antoine Griezmann, admitting ‘nobody knows’ where he will be next season. Griezmann, 26, has been heavily linked with a move away from Atletico, with both Barcelona and Manchester United keen on signing him.

Despite the France international signing a new contract earlier this year, which commits him to Atletico until the end of the 2021-22 season, there is no stopping the speculations.

Goalkeeper Oblak, speaking to journalists at an awards ceremony, where he had just picked up Marca’s ‘Goalkeeper of the 2016-17 season’ award, confessed he has no idea whether the forward will stay with Atletico next season or not.

“In the future with Griezmann, nobody knows,” Oblak was quoted in a report by Daily Mail. For now, he is totally committed to us and we see this in matches and training, he is a huge part of this team.

“We want to be fighting for the title at the end of the season and right now we are taking things one game at a time but we are in a much stronger position now than a month ago,” the Slovenian added.

Last week, Atletico manager Diego Simeone confirmed Griezmann will be allowed to leave the club in future, sparking further rumours.

“Of course Griezmann will be able to leave at some point, the same way (Diego) Costa and Arda Turan were allowed to leave,” Simeone told French daily L’Equipe.

Earlier this week, as reported by BBC, Atletico Madrid reported Barcelona to Fifa over an alleged illegal approach for striker Griezmann.

Despite Manchester United being linked with the player, it is understood Atletico’s complaint is only regarding their La Liga rivals Barcelona, who they claim have spoken to people around Griezmann, including family members.

A Fifa spokesman, as quoted by BBC, said:

“We can confirm that we have received a complaint from Atletico Madrid.”

This leaves Jose Mourinho’s United in the box seat to finally lay their icy hands on their major transfer target next summer.

Griezmann flirted with the Red Devils last summer and claimed there was a “6 out of 10” chance he would move to Old Trafford before Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld. This forced the Frenchman to sign a new deal that runs until 2022 with a €100m (£88m) buyout clause.

Griezmann is also a huge fan of David Beckham and admitted last year he wants to play alongside France international teammate Paul Pogba at club level.

It looks like we have a great chance to land Antoine Griezmann but the question is whether or not Mourinho would go for it.
