Jose Mourinho Hints At Manchester United January Exits Amid Henrikh Mkhitaryan ‘Bust-up’ Speculation

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has added fuel to the speculation over the future of playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan by saying every player has a price.

Mkhitaryan, 28, has not started since the November 5 Premier League defeat to Chelsea and has been omitted from 7 of the subsequent 8 matchday squads in all competitions. His last outing was as a substitute in the 1-0 win against Brighton on November 25.

The Armenian started the season excellently, assisting 5 goals in the first 3 league games of the season. But his form deteriorated rapidly, and now finds himself out of favour at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Mkhitaryan and Mourinho were involved in a bust-up during a video analysis of the victory against Brighton last month.

Mourinho was unhappy with his defensive input and a mistake he made after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Brighton, while he also looked discontented with the Armenian’s contribution against Chelsea in the 1-0 away defeat on November 5.

The 28-year-old was criticised by Mourinho in front of the squad during the video session. In turn, Mkhitaryan responded and continued to argue with the manager even after the meeting in an outside corridor.

Ahead of the West Brom game on Sunday, the United boss said Mkhitaryan’s place has been filled by other players who are deserving, fuelling rumours that the Armenia international could leave the Red Devils in the January transfer window.

Mourinho says he is happy for players to leave if their asking price is met.

“For the right price, that is my approach as a manager in case the club advises. Every player has a price,” Mourinho was quoted in a report by Sky Sports.

“If a player is not happy and if a player brings with him a request with the number that we consider is a good number it happened with Memphis (Depay) and Morgan (Schneiderlin), I would never say no.”

The Portuguese also made it clear that he is not a big fan of the January transfer window but that he will use it to strengthen his squad if a transfer target becomes available.

“I’m not a big defender of the January market but there are players and situations that sometimes you have the chance to do and you shouldn’t lose that chance,” he said.

“I don’t like the January market. But if you can buy a player that you would buy in June and you have the chance to get him a few months before then great.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by talkSPORT, Inter Milan look interested over a straight swap deal that would see Mkhitaryan head to the San Siro and Portugal international Joao Mario end up at Old Trafford.

What’s your opinion? Would you be okay with Mkhitaryan leaving the club?
