£50m Chelsea Target Emerges As Priority Signing For Manchester United In January

Alex Sandro

Manchester United have made Juventus star Alex Sandro their number one target for the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Brazilian international is said to be unhappy in Turin and is reportedly pushing for an exit from the Serie A club. While Chelsea have heavily been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, Manchester United are also interested in signing him as Jose Mourinho sees him as the best option for what is a problem position in their squad, reports the Daily Record.

It is understood that United will hand Mourinho a budget of €90m in the upcoming January transfer window. The Portuguese coach has been given the green light to spend on reinforcements for his squad as they attempt to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

United’s willingness to allow Mourinho to spend lavishly has been reported as a reward for the progress that United have made under his leadership. The Red Devils manager is not happy with his current left-back options and is keen on a move for the Juventus defender.

Mourinho has converted Ashley Young into a makeshift wing-back so far this season and to good effect. However, the 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season. Luke Shaw has struggled to convince our gaffer that he is worthy of a starting spot and it looks likely that the England international would leave Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens.

Now, Sandro’s desire to leave Juventus in the New Year has alerted the Manchester clubs. Chelsea appeared to be closing in on a deal for the Brazilian during the summer transfer window but the full-back’s move to Stamford Bridge never materialised.

While City are also considering a move for the Brazilian due to their senior left-back Benjamin Mendy’s long-term injury, United will be hoping to turn Sandro’s head towards Old Trafford. According to the Telegraph, the 26-year-old has made it apparent that he wants to leave the club.

That means he may now be available for around £50million, which would alert United, possibly in the upcoming January transfer window as Mourinho looks to add a left-sided full-back. But Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has already stated that his full-back will not be sold mid-season unless they receive a “crazy offer”.

So expect us to dig out a world record fee for Sandro if we are to lure him away from Juventus. We definitely need to strengthen our squad in the New Year to stand any chance of matching Pep’s imperious Manchester City.
