It is not rare for young footballers around the globe to indicate that Manchester United is their childhood dream club. So, in a way, it is no surprise that Bundesliga hot sensation Timo Werner has said that he still dreams of a move to Old Trafford.

The young RB Leipzig striker is making waves in the German Bundesliga and is one of the top strikers of his age. The 21-year-old German international is coveted by Barcelona and Liverpool among other top European clubs, but has come out to reveal his dream of turning up for Manchester United.

“As a young boy, you always dream of the big club you’d like to play for,” he told Sky (via Goal).

“It used to be Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, who always won. A young boy is always a fan of those who win.

“You can’t just drop something like that. When it’s going well, you dream of playing somewhere else.”

Werner has taken the Bundesliga by storm ever since he joined Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016. He has started this season in the right fashion, scoring 5 goals from 6 appearances already.

The youngster, however, was quick to add that his short-term ambition was to win titles with Leipzig. After surprising everyone in their debut season last year by challenging Bayern Munich for the title, Leipzig want to build on their success this year.

Werner has been the cornerstone of their success up front and is a crucial member of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side that wants to challenge for titles this season. They are currently just one point off the season leaders Borussia Dortmund but Werner wants to help his side stay with the pack in the Bundesliga race.

With the additional burden of Champions League football, it remains to be seen if Leipzig and Werner can manage the dual challenge to come up on top. As such, it looks highly unlikely that he would leave the club soon for greener pastures.

United have started the season on a positive note, although the loss to Huddersfield Town on Saturday is a setback. Jose Mourinho’s side is not yet out of the title race but it is looking increasingly likely that Pep Guardiola’s Machester City will stay ahead for some time.

Mourinho has a lot of options up front, with Romelu Lukaku leading the line now and Zlatan Ibrahimovic ready to come back to the team before the end of this year. Werner could be an ideal replacement for Ibrahimovic as the youngster has all the skills to be a long-term success at Old Trafford.
