It looks like Real Madrid are warming up to the idea of looking at Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford as a serious transfer option for next summer. After reports of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo endorsing the England international’s name, the Spanish media picks up the news that the Los Blancos could look a Rashford as their back-up plan.

According to the Spanish website Don Balon (as reported by The Daily Mail), the youngster has been identified by Real Madrid’s hierarchy as their ‘Plan B’ if Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane rejects their interest.

The England international striker has been in red-hot form for the Lilywhites that it has been reported that Real Madrid are interested in his signature. After having failed this summer in their pursuit of Monaco’s star forward Kylian Mbappe, Madrid want to make sure that they do not miss out on their star targets next summer.

Kane would be a readymade option for the Spanish Champions, who want to line him up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. However, there are growing concerns over the Tottenham star joining Real Madrid.

One reason for this is the fact that Benzema is the star striker at the club, having etched himself as a favourite among the supporters, coach and president Florentino Perez equally alike. Even if Kane moves to Madrid, he would be the second choice behind Benzema which may not be to the player’s liking. That’s why Madrid want to keep their options open.

The 19-year-old is being viewed as a long-term replacement for Benzema and Real Madrid believe that they can ease him into the first-team and feel that he can become their prime player two or three seasons down the line. Real Madrid also feel that they can catch United’s attention by placing Gareth Bale in the mix – as the Welsh star is someone the Red Devils have been tracking for a long time.

Interestingly, these two sides are in no good terms in the recent past over transfers especially after the failed move of David de Gea in 2015. Will Rashford be lured into a move to Madrid? I feel this is just a figment of imagination for the Spanish side.
