Manchester United kept the pressure at the top end of the table as they edged out Southampton 1-0 at St Mary’s. This game was much harder than expected as the home side gave a great account of themselves and dominated the second-half of the game.
We did start brightly and it was no surprise that the first and only goal of the game was scored by Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian did well to shrug off his defender in the penalty box and headed the ball straight at Fraser Forster before knocking the rebound in.
This is the kind of goal that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would score and Lukaku has continued his goal scoring exploits from the start of the season. The Belgian didn’t really have a lot of other chances to score but Southampton put us under great pressure.
Shane Long, Oriol Romeu and even Mario Lemina came close for the hosts but we stood firm and kept another clean sheet. There still was drama as Jose Mourinho was sent off in the second half but this are the kind of wins that champions achieve, and we do look like we will grind out wins rather than let points slip away, something we did last season.
The talk of Twitter was Lukaku, as he notched his 6th Premier League goal in 6 games and here are some of the best reactions from the social networking site.

Champions always have games where they grind out the win. Can’t expect to play champagne football every week. Romelu Lukaku superb again.

8 goals in 8 games from Lukaku so far.
He’s done it quicker than Cantona, Cole, Yorke, van Nistelrooy, RvP, and Zlatan.#RedRom pic.twitter.com/bxa3kC6bV3
