Marek Hamsik Admits His Desire To Join Manchester United – Is Jose Listening?

Napoli star Marek Hamsik admits that the only chance of him leaving Napoli would be to join Manchester United if they ever came up with a bid, reports The Sun.

Hamsik, who is the club captain at Napoli, is a cult hero, with some fans equating him to Diego Maradona at the club. Hamsik too on his part has remained loyal to Napoli despite interest from Europe’s big clubs. However, he admits that it would be difficult for him to turn down a move to Old Trafford.

He is regarded as one of the best creative midfielders in Europe and has consistently been the top performer for Napoli over the years. The Slovakian international has been chased by the Europe’s elite but has always chosen to remain at Napoli.

However, there is always a frustration within the player over the inability of his club to win the Italian title. Napoli has always been the bridesmaid, with Juventus remaining so dominant in the Serie A, making it a one-way charge.

His decision to move out of Naples would only be for winning titles and although it is a very tough decision, Hamsik admits that it can only be to a club of the stature of Manchester United.

When asked if he would fancy a move to Manchester United, Bayern Munich or Barcelona, the midfielder replied:

“That’s hard to say. It would surely be the hardest decision of my career. Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that.”

United have embarked on a major rebuilding this season with Jose Mourinho making some pointed purchases. The arrival of Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku has given greater teeth to the attack although Mourinho is still in search of a pacy winger.

The Red Devils were behind Hamsik’s Serie A compatriot Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan throughout the summer, although the move didn’t materialise. The 30-year-old is also bookmakers Ladbrokes’ favourite to make a move to Old Trafford.

Napoli is probably one of the top 10 European clubs in terms of performance but for them, it has always been a case of ‘so near yet so far’. With Mourinho trying to build a legacy of his own and challenge for titles, the platform at Manchester United could be right for Hamsik to satisfy his hunger for trophies.
