Jose Mourinho Registers Late Interest To Sign £100,000-a-week Attacker As Bale And Perisic Deals Look Unlikely

Amidst all the managers rushing to complete their signings as transfer window comes to a close, Jose Mourinho is one happy man. He has signed three of his four targets already and is not overly worried even if the fourth doesn’t go through.

But, Jose likes to be cheeky and likes to surprise opponents on and off the field. True to his nature, he is reported to have registered a late interest in signing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

According to SFR Sport and translated by The Metro, and reported in The Independent as well, the Portuguese tactician is looking to add Mahrez to his attack line before the transfer deadline.

The Algerian international has handed a transfer request earlier in the summer and was reported to have been close to the exit door. Italian side AS Roma were rumoured to have bid multiple times for the player although the valuations of both clubs differed.

This has meant that the player is yet to move out of the King Power Stadium and as the deadline approaches, the £100,000-a-week Algerian is looking still looking for a new club.

Throughout the summer, Mourinho was tracking Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan. Although the player agreed to personal terms with the club, United could not come to an agreement with Inter over the transfer fee and the deal collapsed.

There were rumours of interest in Gareth Bale as the Welsh superstar’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu remains under question. He was jeered by a section of the crowd during the game against Valencia last weekend, opening doors for a transfer out of the club.

United and Mourinho remain long-term admirers but his national coach Chris Coleman has urged his compatriot to stay put. The player too is reportedly keen to stay for one more year and then decide his future next summer.

With the deal for Perisic too dead in the dumps, Mourinho is now keen to look at other targets and the 26-year-old Mahrez could be a class addition.

There remain doubts over his consistency after his form tapered off last season with the Foxes.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Mahrez but if he is a Jose-type player, though? I doubt it!
