Jose Mourinho – ‘It’s easier for Galatasaray to get me’, But Confirms Midfielder Is “too important”

Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini is making rounds in Turkey as Galatasaray are reportedly interested in getting him move from Old Trafford. However, manager Jose Mourinho has announced that the robust midfielder is “too important” for him and all but ruled the transfer out.

Fellaini has an interesting love-hate relationship with the Old Trafford faithful. For many, he is a reminder of the problems we had, under David Moyes. He could never justify his hefty price tag although his performances improved under Mourinho last season.

Fellaini still is not a regular starter but has excelled in crucial encounters, underlining his value for the team. The Portuguese tactician values his contributions and regards him as a very vital squad player. That probably explains his statement that Galatasaray won’t be able to get Fellaini.

“It’s easier for Galatasaray to get me than Marouane,” he was quoted by The Independent.

The Belgian is entering the final year of his contract and there were murmurs at the end of last season that new terms would be proposed.

He is often chided by the fans for his mistakes, especially those fouls that cost us crucial points. Headbutting Sergio Aguero during the Manchester derby last season was just one of his many pointless aggressive streaks. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of him is his flapping shoulders when he goes into a tackle.

Manchester United midfielder Fellaini.

But under Mourinho, his goals have become invaluable. Look no further than his late strikes in the Europa League last season which helped us clinch the title.

Should He Stay?

It is difficult to be objective when it comes to Fellaini but he has certain attributes that make him special. His aerial prowess is a virtue, as it was showcased by his goal in the preseason friendly against Valerenga.

Provided Mourinho doesn’t look to throw him as a forward when we need a goal, Fellaini adds something to our squad.

Will He Stay?

That’s a tricky question because even Fellaini knows that he is way down the pecking order. Now that we have signed Nemanja Matic, his time on the field would be even more limited next season. Galatasaray will provide better first team opportunities for Fellaini and that could lure him to Turkey. But Mourinho has a knack of keeping his players intact and may just do the same with the tall Belgian!
