Manchester United might well face the ultimate victory for the second time running against their fellow Premier League side Chelsea, as George Scott of the Daily Star has suggested that the Devils’ £35 million offer for AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko has been accepted. It’s not just him, James Dickenson from the same publication, too, has reported the same, claiming that he is well on his way to Old Trafford this summer.

Manchester United’s interest in Bakayoko might not had been a reason for that much of concern for Chelsea fans had it not been for the Devils’ triumph in Lukaku’s deal. The Belgian was long linked with a move to Chelsea, but United managed to crack a deal out of nowhere.

Bakayoko, on his part, has one important decision to make, given the fact that both United and Chelsea are well capable of offering first team football. United, however, might have a slightest of an edge as they are long looking to find a Michael Carrick replacement. The Englishman is well expected to hang his cleats at the end of next season, and the Devils will find themselves short in number, hence, a pursuit of Bakayoko.

However, the French news outlet L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) has claimed that Bakayoko is “bound for Chelsea” and will not return to the club for the pre-season training. Hence, it is fair to say that Manchester United or Chelsea – Bakayoko is travelling to England this summer.

Our Verdict

The 22-year-old established himself as the one to beat last season, making 46 appearances in all competition for Leonardo Jardim’s side and in the process, earned himself his full senior call for France in March. Talking numbers, Bakayoko was one of the finest midfielders last season as he averaged 87% of passing accuracy in the Ligue 1. Furthermore, his 57 take ons, 57 tackles and 56 interceptions grabbed the attention of several European giants.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is someone who likes to get the better of his oppositions. His strong physique, towering presence and ability to shield his defence will unarguably boost any club’s midfield. Besides, should United manage to get him in, his presence would give Ander Herrera a much-deserved space and this will, indirectly, affect Pogba’s outcome in attack.

Go for it, Jose!
