Manchester United Hours Away From Completing A Mega Transfer

Alvaro Morata

Manchester United are hopeful of landing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata soon, and if the reports from the IBTimes UK are to be believed, the Red Devils have made a subsequent progress in the negotiation and the deal will be finalised within the next 72 hours.

Manchester United have been on a lookout to bring in a perfect number 9 since the day they decided not to renew Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract. Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann was identified as a potential replacement, but Griezmann decided to stay put and eventually signed a new contract.

Manager Jose Mourinho would be growing frustrated due to United’s lack of transfer activities, but the progress in Morata’s deal might give the Portuguese a reason to grin. Morata, on his part, has been long linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu with the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan showing a potential interest. However, the Spaniard has firmly decided to make a reunion with Jose Mourinho, who gave him his first team debut back in December 2010.

With Morata getting married and Real Madrid engaged in the presidential election, the negotiation was stalled for quite some time. However, the Spanish new outlet AS has now claimed that both Morata’s father Alfonso and his agent, Juanma López met Real Madrid’s officials on Monday to discuss the 24-year-old’s future.

Earlier last month, Manchester United made an official offer of £52.4m for the Spaniard, but the Galacticos firmly rejected the bid, claiming that he is worth more than that. And now, with the player himself looking keen on moving away and with United being ready to table a better offer, the transfer is practically possible, to say the least.

Furthermore, the aforementioned source has also added that Mourinho has asked Ed Woodward put an extra effort in the negotiation so that Morata arrives at the Theatre of Dreams before the squad departs to the United States to play their pre-season friendlies.

With that being said and done, here is how the Twitterratis reacted to the news.
