Mourinho Turns His Attention Towards Italy Star With Move For £44m Winger Stalling

Manchester United are growing increasingly frustrated with their inability to complete a deal for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. As a result, the club are turning their attention towards Italy star Federico Bernardeschi as an alternative for the Croatian winger, according to talkSport.

Negotiations with the Italian club for the transfer of Perisic have been going on for the last few weeks, and it looks like United may not be able to complete the transfer before the beginning of the pre-season tour. Manager Jose Mourinho has stressed on several occasions that it was important for the club to complete majority of the signings before the pre-season begins. United are understood to have offered a £26million for the 28-year-old, while Inter Milan demand around the £44million for the winger (talkSport).

Last season, Perisic was one of the best players at Inter Milan, but United are not ready to pay an extravagant figure for a player who will not have much in the form of a resale value by the end of a five-year contract. As a result, United are looking likely to pull out of the deal and make a move for Fiorentina’s Bernardeschi.

This is not the first time Bernardeschi is being linked with a move to the English Premier league, as the player has been linked with the likes of Chelsea in the past. Juventus have also been taking a look at the player, but they seem to have dropped their interest to leave United as the front-runners. Fiorentina are thought to be demanding around £40million for the player, but it would not be a figure to scare off United.

The Red Devils have not been ready to pay just over £40million for Perisic only because the winger is considerably older. However, a move for Bernardeschi will not come under such issues considering that he is only 23 years of age. He came through the ranks at Fiortentina and has spent time on loan at Crotone in the past. He has become an influential player in the Fiorentina first-team over the last few years.

Last season, he made 42 appearances in all competitions and ended up coming up with returns of 14 goals and 5 assists. Bernardeschi has also gone on to make a major impact in the Italian national team and has made 9 appearances since his debut just over a year ago.
