Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign AS Monaco’s Portuguese sensation Bernardo Silva. The 22-year old was spectacular for Monaco in their title-winning campaign where they trumped the likes of the heavy-spending Paris Saint-Germain to win the Ligue1 title.

Their Champions League run was brilliant too, considering that they made it to the semi-finals of the competition before losing out to Italian giants Juventus. Bernardo Silva’s performances this season have caught the eye of many top clubs across Europe and Manchester United now seem to be up front in the queue to land Bernardo Silva.

A report in Canal Plus (h/t French Football magazine) has claimed that Manchester United are in pole position to land the talented attacker. Silva initially joined Monaco on a one-year deal from Benfica in 2014 before making a permanent move to the French club in 2015. He hasn’t looked back since then and has made 147 appearances for the club in just 3 seasons. This season alone, he featured in 58 games for Monaco in all competitions! Talk about fitness.

He approximately played for a total of 4300 minutes across all competitions this season and contributed directly to 23 goals, including 11 goals and 12 assists. Silva, being diminutive in stature, he makes up for his lack of physicality as he possesses a wicked left foot capable of detecting holes in the tightest of defences. He would offer creativity in United’s beleaguered attacking line-up, which has looked bereft of ideas all season long.

With Rooney’s future uncertain and Zlatan Ibrahimovic not having extended his contract yet, signing Silva would be a shrewd move. Marcus Rashford has established himself as a goalscorer and is already striking fear into opponents. Anthony Martial is capable of playing up front and is an extraordinary talent as we all know it.

Although Martial and Rashford are too young to be leading the charge for Manchester United, their talent and finishing abilities cannot be questioned and they will come good if they are given enough playing time. So signing Bernardo Silva would be a cheap alternative to buying a striker in the inflated market these days.

If we can sign Bernardo, then we’d have 3 midfielders in Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Silva, who are all capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield – be it on the wings, or be it playing behind the striker.

Do you think we should sign Bernardo Silva?
