The latest round of Champions League semi-final matches seem to have gone in favour of Manchester United, who have made significant steps to sign Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. According to Express, he latter has emerged as one of the top transfer targets for United and Real Madrid in the last few months. He has been a sensational arrival in the world of top-level football. At just 18 years of age, he has already been touted as the next big thing in the game. It was reported by The Guardian that United made a £72 million offer just before the Champions League semi-final with Juventus which Monaco are understood to have turned down this offer before going on to lose 2-0 in the first leg of the semi-final.
This result has a major impact on the presence of Mbappe next season. The 18-year-old has been a crucial factor in helping Monaco become a top French outfit once again. Monaco are favourites to win the French Ligue1 after opening up a three-point advantage over Paris St Germain following the weekend’s results. The impact of the striker has been so great that he has attracted a lot of top clubs in Europe.
Meanwhile, United are taking advantage of Atletico Madrid’s disastrous result in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid. A 3-0 result sees Diego Simeone’s team on the verge of failure to reach the third Champions League final in the last four years. Antoine Griezmann once again failed to score, as he has done in the last few weeks. He has looked out of sorts after scoring just 3 goals in the last 10 matches. Even then, United have been after the French international for a long time that they see this as a great opportunity to complete the transfer.
The Red Devils have been ready to activate his buyout clause, which stands at £85million. Yet, they have been unable to negotiate personal terms with the player, as he has been concentrating on the La Liga campaign with Atletico. With the top three places almost secured and on the verge of Champions League exit, Atletico’s campaign is coming to an early end. Griezmann has reportedly been offered a contract worth £280,000 per week by Man United. This, coupled with his massive transfer fees mean that United will be spending an insane sum of money over the next five years.
