Why Manchester United Should Avoid Signing This Manchester City Outcast At All Cost

José Mourinho seems to be preparing for the eventuality of David de Gea leaving the club in the summer. Marca released a report linking Manchester United with a move for Manchester City outcast Joe Hart. While the possibility of signing a City player would raise a lot of eyebrows, Jose Mourinho has never taken this kind of rivalry serious, especially when it comes to player transfers. Only a few years ago, he sold Juan Mata to Manchester United despite Chelsea being a major rival for United.

Hart has fallen down the pecking order at City and was allowed to leave the club even before the start of the campaign. Claudio Bravo was signed as his replacement, but he has been a huge disappointment. Even his backup, Willy Caballero has not been much impressive either. Hart is currently on loan at Torino and might leave City on a permanent basis in the summer.

David de Gea has been subjected to transfer rumours linking him with Madrid. According to Metro, the Spanish club are ready to pay around £60million – a sum that would make him the world’s most expensive goalkeeper by a significant margin. United might believe that such an extravagant figure would scare Madrid away, but the persistence shown by the Spanish outfit would leave United concerned about the possibility of losing the player. After having arrived at Old Trafford as an 18-year-old from Atletico Madrid, De Gea has progressed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Still only 26 years old, it is realistically possible that the Spaniard may go on to play for another decade at the top level.

The question now is, should United decide against using Sergio Romero as a regular first choice and opt against signing Hart? Or should they go with signing the England goalkeeper?

Hart has been a great shot stopper throughout his career. City manager Pep Guardiola did not let him go because he was bad at goalkeeping. Hart was allowed to leave because his skills with the ball were not up to the level that was expected by Guardiola. Even now, Hart has several issues with his positioning and is not the greatest when it comes to dealing with set pieces. Manchester United need the best goalkeeper. Period. While Hart is a great option, he is not the best.
