Manchester United Set To Offload Matteo Darmian

Manchester United are reportedly close to sealing a deal for defender Matteo Darmian as Italian biggies chase the full-back from Manchester.

The Italian defender has been finding it difficult to garner game time under Jose Mourinho and has attracted heavy interest from Italian clubs.

Darmian was earlier linked with Juventus amidst claim that the Serie A giants were close to a cut-price £8.6m deal. His contract at United runs until 2019 with the option of a further year.

Juventus are believed to be preparing themselves for Dani Alves’ exit and are hence hunting for a right-back to replace the Brazilian veteran. According to Calciomercato, Alves could be on his way out of Juventus with China touted as a possible destination. The Serie A champions are understood to have identified Darmian as Alves’ replacement.

The move might benefit all the parties involved, as Darmian has found very little playing time at Old Trafford. Matteo is surely a quality player and moving to Juventus would be a brilliant choice for him if Dani Alves is departing the Italian club. He would get more playing time and can start pressing claims in the Italian National team as well.

On the other hand, Mourinho can try and replace the versatile full-back with a better player and hope to challenge other players in the squad to earn their places.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Nelson Semedo, and the move would make sense if Darmian departs Old Trafford.

Darmian has made just 18 appearances this season and has been on the pitch for 1393 minutes. Such limited playing time is sure to frustrate any player and the Italian wouldn’t be an exception. However, he has been thoroughly professional about the issue and hasn’t complained about his involvement at all.

Much credit needs to be given for his behaviour and it looks like his professionalism may well be rewarded with a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe right now. But if Mourinho decides to keep hold of the player because of the potential that he possesses, then there could be no way out for Matteo Darmian.

With his contract running until 2019, the control over the transfer would be in Manchester United’s hand and the player or Juventus would not have too much say on the whole saga.
