Jose Mourinho is believed to be hunting for a new left-back, with Luke Shaw failing to press claims at Old Trafford.  The England international has failed to cement himself a spot as a regular starter this term and clubs are showing interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has identified Alba as a suitable replacement for Shaw, in case he decides to leave the club. The Barcelona left-back is understood to be open to a move to Old Trafford in the summer. He is an admirer of United and manager Jose Mourinho, according to a source close to the player.

Alba is believed to have become unsettled under Luis Enrique this season having been left out of key games against Atletico Madrid in La Liga and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. He has made just 29 appearances this season and has scored once and has provided 3 assists.

However, with Enrique set to leave Barca at the end of the season, Alba might wait until summer to decide about his future. The new Barcelona manager will have a role to play in Alba’s decision to leave or stay at Camp Nou. The Spaniard is under contract until 2020 and would likely command a fee in the region of £25 million.

Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young have all featured at left-back for United this season, but none of them have cemented their place at left-back. It has become a problem position for Mourinho.

It makes sense for Manchester United to move for Alba as the Spaniard has plenty of football left in him. He is just 28-years old and is a quality player who would be perfect for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.

With Jose Mourinho experimenting with his formation of late, Alba would be a sensible signing as the full-back is known for his attacking qualities.

He is an excellent dribbler of the ball and has a good pace. He can deliver pin-point crosses and United would be a balanced unit with Alba in the team, as Valencia at right-back has been unbelievable this season.

It will be interesting to see if Jose decides to splash the cash on the little Spaniard.

Do you think Alba would be a good fit at Manchester United?
