Everton are confident of landing Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney in the summer. Day after day, week after week, the speculation about the Manchester United captain continues to grow. The latest report is that, Everton Football Club believe they can get the England striker once the season finishes.

The Merseysiders are sure that Rooney will accept their offer and would switch clubs by the end of the current season. Wayne Rooney joined  in 2004 as an 18-year old sensation and he hasn’t looked back from there.

All these years later, he is the captain of Manchester United, and is the highest goal scorer in the history of the club. There is no doubt that he has had a great career, however, he has found playing time hard to come by this season, under new manager Jose Mourinho.

This has alerted a lot of clubs and they are circling like sharks to grab the opportunity to sign a player, who is arguably the best England striker ever.

It has been reported that the United skipper might have to take a pay cut to move away from Old Trafford. The Toffees are ready to offer £150,000-a-week contract.

Though it is a low sum considering his current pay scale, more game time on the pitch would be a significant factor for Rooney to consider, than the money offered on the table. He still has few years of top-flight football left in him and it would be wise for the legend to consider moving back to his boyhood club.

A tough last few months for the England captain has seen him fall out of favour under Jose Mourinho, to the point he has also lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Wednesday’s friendly away to Germany and Sunday’s home qualifier against Lithuania.

It seems like a distant possibility for Rooney to try and regain his place in the Manchester United set-up and hence, a move is the most feasible option for Wayne to get more time on the pitch. He would also be motivated in regaining his place in the National team and the only way to do that would be to get some regular playing time.

However, if Mourinho decides to change his mind and play the skipper more often than how it is now, then it wouldn’t even be necessary for Rooney to ponder his future.
