£90m Rated Ex-Chelsea Star Could Be Manchester United’s Next Marquee Signing

Manchester United are in the news to break their transfer record again. The Red Devils are looking for a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as the Swede’s contract will run out at the end of the season, and the club have targeted Romelu Lukaku of Everton.

The 23-year-old Belgian has been one of the hottest strikers since making his move to Merseyside and has scored 19 goals in the league this season. The former Chelsea man is a serious target for Jose Mourinho according to the Telegraph, despite him selling the Belgian when the pair were at the London club.

Mourinho seems to have done a U-turn and is willing to spend big bucks to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams. It won’t be easy for United to lure Lukaku away from Everton as the club want to hold onto their precious star and want him to sign a new deal to stay at Goodison Park.

The Merseyside club want to insert a clause of £90 million into his contract and that would ensure that anyone who wants to buy Lukaku would have to pay more than what United paid Juventus to bring in Paul Pogba at the start of the season.

While Pogba is still adjusting to the rigours of the Premier League, Lukaku is a proven star and has consistently scored goals for Everton and for West Bromwich Albion as well. The striker is quick off the blocks, built like a tank and has great finishing ability, the only downside to his game is his consistency but if he is on his game, there is no better striker than him in England.

At the start of the season, there were rumours that Lukaku would leave Everton before the end of the summer transfer window but Ronald Koeman ensured that the Toffees held on to their prized asset at least for another season.

The Belgian has wanted to play Champions League football and there lies the problem as United are not guaranteed of participating in European club football’s biggest tournament. Should Mourinho lead his club to the Champions League, they will certainly bring in a lot more talent and with the club having a lot of money to spend, Lukaku could be the marquee signing next season.
