Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has released a statement regarding his future at the club, in order to clear the on-going confusion regarding his stay at the club. Wayne Rooney has long been linked with a move away from the club, with a move to China being regarded as a possible destination for the English legend.
However, Rooney has released a statement clearing all doubts about his future, saying that he wants to stay at the club and help the team compete for trophies.
This must potentially put all the rumours to bed as there has been huge uncertainty regarding the Manchester United captain’s position at the club.
The statement read, “Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United. I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts. It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.”
When the rumours surfaced, a lot of experts and former players came out with suggestions that a player like Wayne Rooney must not move to China. Paul Merson was one of the lot, who said Rooney shouldn’t be moving to China.
Rooney’s statement comes at an important time for the club as they are preparing to face Southampton in an all-important EFL Cup final this weekend.
