Manchester United Striker Deeply Disappointed With Jose Mourinho’s Reaction – Report

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial is understood to be deeply disappointed with Jose Mourinho’s decision to drop him back to the substitute’s bench for the game against Hull City, as per the reports from Telegraph. Manchester United could only manage a 0-0 draw with the relegation threatened outfit, a result which deeply damages their hopes of finishing in the top four. Martial was given the last chance to impress the manager in the FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic only a few days ago.

Jose Mourinho promised Martial a regular first-team opportunity if he came in with a magnificent performance. However, Martial failed to score in the 4-0 win for United. Despite the lack of goals, it seems that the player felt that he did extremely well in the game. The club progressed into the fifth round of the FA Cup following this win. Martial does not seem to have been so lucky with Mourinho dropping him straight away for the next game. The striker played the full 90 minutes without scoring.

As a result, the future looks gloomy for the striker. Following several rumours about an impending move to Sevilla, the Spanish club came out with a serious interest for a loan move in January. However, Jose Mourinho retained striker saying that he was a vital part of the team. Martial could be further incensed by the lack of first-team opportunities and the manager’s reluctance to at least let him leave on a loan deal. Not playing regularly is expected to cost Martial a place in the French national team. The 21-year-old has 15 appearances for the national team since making his debut in 2015.

Against Hull City, United could have taken advantage of all title rivals like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham dropping points. Yet, they failed to get a win and watched Manchester City extended their advantage following a comfortable win over West Ham. As the Red Devils went in search of the crucial goal that would give them three points, Jose Mourinho had a number of options on the bench. Rather than bring on Martial, the Portuguese manager brought on Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney. Both players had some good opportunities to score but inefficiency ultimately cost United.

Despite being unbeaten in the league since October, United have been struck in the sixth place for several months now. City have extended their advantage to 4 points following the weekend’s results. It is highly unlikely that Martial may start the game or even play a part following this huge setback.
