QPR’s Les Ferdinand Was Full On Praise For Highly-Rated New Signing From Manchester United

QPR recently secured the signing of Manchester United youngster Sean Goss for a fee of around £500,000. The German-born youngster’s failure to secure first-team football at Old Trafford has seen him drop down a division in order to join Queens Park Rangers. QPR director of football Les Ferdinand has heaped praise on Goss by saying that the midfielder has already been a revelation in the first-team squad. A player of immense talent, Goss was brought into the club from Exeter in 2012 for a fee of around £125,000. He was a familiar name at Old Trafford in the recent years, despite the fact that he is yet to make a first-team appearance for United in the Premier League.

United are rich with talent especially in the midfield and it seems that Goss has been unable to break into this domination. Louis van Gaal saw the 21-year-old as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick in the middle of the park. Just when it seemed that Carrick’s days were outnumbered when he did not feature much in the initial few months under Jose Mourinho, the 35-year-old has made a stunning comeback and is now one of the important members of the first team once again.

This appears to have convinced Goss that his time at United may not come. At 21 years of age, he had to play regularly in order to avoid being forgotten. Moving to QPR represents a great outcome for the player considering that he would have a good opportunity of returning to the Premier League sooner rather than later. QPR may be struggling near the bottom of the table in the Championship, but they were in the Premier League not too long ago. Director of football Les Ferdinand is confident of returning to a title challenge position at least next season.

Gone are the days of extravagant signings at Loftus Road, as the club are concentrating on bringing in players with a lot of hunger and talent. Goss certainly fits into this regard. Goss was such a talented Manchester United that he had to bypass the under 18 team much sooner than players of his age. He was put into the under 21 team, but his progression appears to have stopped right there. The decision not to let Goss leave at least on a loan deal appears to have been surprising.

Ferdinand told the Brent & Kilburn Times that the highly-rated Goss is exactly the kind of player he is keen for Rangers to sign.

“Sean’s very highly rated and the mere fact he is even looking at coming to us is a real positive.

“He’s an excellent young midfielder and exactly the type of player we’ve been looking at. That deal is close to being completed.

“We now need to raise funds to go out and purchase players, so if we can bring a few in who we think will have premium sell-on value, like Sean, then we’re very much moving in the right direction.”

One of the strong abilities of Goss is to retain the ball even under a lot of pressure. This is an ability which will come into play in the Championship campaign when teams have a lot less quality to retain possession.
