Manchester United In Line To Complete Deal For Striker With A Bumper Pay Rise Of £5,000-a-week Each Year

Manchester United are seriously considering the possibility of giving striker Marcus Rashford a new contract, despite the player featuring more often as a substitute rather than a regular starter under Jose Mourinho – as per the reports from The Sun. Rashford has been one of the latest talents to emerge from the Manchester United youth academy, and his impact in the first team has been immense. He was a runaway success last season, but this campaign is turning out to be much more difficult for the 19-year-old.

The impressive first campaign led to the striker signing a new four-year contract, which runs until the summer of 2020, only in the summer. It is thought that this contract pays him around £20,000 per week. However, a number of clubs are now considering the possibility of making an offer for Rashford, by tempting him with a lot more money, in order to take advantage of the lack of first-team football. The striker has started only eight of the 17 league appearances this season. Since he has been playing on the wing, he has returned with abysmal figures of just three goals and one assist from these games.

The £20,000 per week contract may seem extremely low, but it is understood that the contract is improved each year by an additional £5,000 per week. Hence, the striker could be looking at least £40,000 per week by the time he comes to the end of this current contract. The club also have the option of extending this contract by another year. However, it is believed that offers from other clubs are thought to manage the £40,000 figure even now and it would be a tempting prospect for any young player like Rashford.

Even though he has come through the youth ranks at United, loyalty is fast becoming a thing of the past in the game. More importantly, Rashford would like to play more often, and in his preferred centre role, when given the opportunity. Rather than just the interest from other clubs, it is understood that even Mourinho is impressed by the attitude shown by Rashford in training and during games. Even when he is not starting, there has been no reduction in the work rate put in by the player during training. This hard work is likely to be paid off in the coming summer, as United are not in a hurry to extend the player’s contract and are ready to wait until the summer.

United manager Jose Mourinho recently spoke highly about Rashford by saying that he would like to have a player like the 19-year-old in his squad at all times because he has the club’s DNA.
