English Defender Returns To Manchester United – Is It A Good Move?

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson to be recalled by Manchester United

A recent report from ESPN has confirmed that Manchester United have recalled their 19-year-old left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson from his loan spell at Championship side Wolves.

The Mancunian was a steady starter for the Championship side in the beginning of the ongoing season, but a change in the managerial spot has lead the 19-year-old to sit on the bench. His last appearance for the Wolves came back in November 2016 in a 3-2 loss against Derby County, in which he completed full 90 minutes.

Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United tenure was endured as a failed one, but the former Bayern Munich tactician did give United something to cheer about. During his time, many young guns came into the main picture and Borthwick-Jackson was one of them.

As Luke Shaw was nursing his injury last season, United were devoid of options in the area, hence the manager decided to call the academy players and that turned out to be one of the best decisions from the manager. The 19-year-old took no time settle down in the senior side and soon was recognized for his excellent crossing ability.

Soon after Mourinho arrived at the Theatre of Dreams, he mentioned that Cameron does have a role to play in his script and hence, he was loaned out for further development. Since Paul Lambert has taken the reins of the Championship club, Jackson’s progress has been stalled and that reportedly has made Jose Mourinho an angry spectator, and just due to this reason, it was reported that Mourinho did not allow Sam Johnstone to move to Wolves on a loan.

After all this, Wolves’ board claimed that they would use the 19-year-old regularly from now on and will give the youngster his chance in the Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Stoke, the manager did otherwise and the player came back to Manchester.

Wolves paid a hefty loan fee for the player past year, and it was understood that the teenager wanted this move to work to a great extent hence, he rented an apartment in the Wolverhampton area, while the other players residing in Manchester took a drive daily.

It is sad to see this move failing, but the situation at United is not the worst for the teenager at this point of time. Shaw, even though he has returned to the training, is certainly days aways from being declared as match fit and Daley Blind lacks that much-needed pace in the wings, hence the 19-year-old could well and truly mark his return to the first team this month.

As mentioned before, he is known for his delicious crosses from wide areas, therefore, he could be a perfect ammunition for Ibrahimovic’s canon. There hasn’t been any official confirmation from the club, but the deal looks certain and even the fans would want our beloved ‘Jack-Rex’ back in the squad.
