Benfica defender Victor Lindelof remains in the limelight ahead of a proposed move to Manchester United. Both parties are yet to confirm the deal, which is understood to be in the region of £38 million and going up to £42 million. However, a big indication has come from the player’s girlfriend. Maja Nilsson has posted a picture on her Instagram account with the caption that Lisbon has been an incredible city which has provided her best years. The couple are pictured with a lot of baggage, a direct hint that the player may be on the verge of a move. (h/t tip from Portuguese source record)

Regarded as one of the finest young talent in world football, Lindelof has made a lot of headlines since being linked with United a few months ago. The Swedish youngster has been reportedly persuaded by striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join the Premier League outfit. At just 22 years of age, he will be able to become the next Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic. It is one of the reasons that persuaded United to pay a £38 million fee – £8 million more than Eric Bailly.

Even though United’s form at the back has considerably improved in the last few weeks, the club are reportedly keen on making Victor Lindelof as the partner for Eric Bailly. Even though the 22-year-old may have just played less than 1000 minutes of league football for Manchester United, the club clearly have a winner on their hands and giving him an excellent partner like Lindelof remains a major priority. Manchester United have conceded a goal per game this season, but only Chelsea, Tottenham, and Southampton have a mean difference than the Red Devils.

Hence, it is surprising to see that the club are prepared to spend a huge sum of money on a defender. The signing of Lindelof is expected to be confirmed in the next few days, and it will raise a lot of doubts about the future of existing players like Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and the Daley Blind. The latter is expected to depart even though he started in the 3-1 win over Sunderland on Boxing Day. There have been rumours about Spanish outfit Valencia coming in with a £14 million offer for Marcos Rojo.

While the team are fourth in the table in terms of the defensive record, United fall to 7th in the table in terms of the goals scored. Players like Paul Pogba, though, are starting to come good, and one can expect United to be climbing up the table soon in this regard.

After having managed four consecutive league wins, United are hoping for a fifth win in succession when they take on Middlesbrough on December 31.
