Stats Reveal Why Manchester United Should Sign This Brazilian Full Back

AS Monaco are expecting Manchester United to move for their star full-back Fabinho before the transfer deadline next month. Their flexibility to any deal will depend on whether or not Monaco manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League, as reported by the Daily Star. The report also adds that Matteo Darmian – United’s first choice right-back for much of last season – could be heading to Serie A, just a year after signing from Torino last summer. Second choice right-back Guillermo Varela was sent out on loan last week, meaning Jose Mourinho lacks in that area of the pitch. Fabinho has been at Monaco for three years now, but only signed a permanent deal last summer after spending the first two years at the Stade Louis stadium on loan from Portuguese side Rio Ave. Under such circumstances, it’s worth to sit back and try to make a statistical comparison of the two and try to figure out who is better:

STATS:

Fabinho played 34 games for Monaco in the Ligue 1, while Darmian played 28 matches for United in the Premier League. Squawka gave the former a total performace score of 583, while the later received only 235. Defensively, the Italian is ahead though, with a score of 194 while the Brazilian has received 189 only.

In the attacking department, Fabinho is miles ahead though, leading 380 points to a paltry 55. With a pass completion of 81%, the Monaco man is only slightly ahead of the United fullback, who is at 79%. However, with 4 assists, 6 goals and 25 chances created, Fabinho shows he is a zillion times better than Darmian on the overlap, who has 0 assists, 1 goal and only 12 chances created to his credit.

FANVIEW:

It is obvious that Fabinho is a far more attacking fullback than Darmian is, and is exceptionally comfortable on the ball. Knowing Jose Mourinho, it’s obvious to see why he is inclined to him, given his preference for courageous, attacking fullbacks who can support the wingers upfront. However, I would like to see Darmian given another chance, since it’s always tough to adjust to the league in the first season itself, and given his bad luck with injuries, it seems he should be given another shot at least.
