3 Reasons Why Manchester United Fans Need Not Be So Optimistic About Zlatan

3 reasons why Zlatan isn’t the real deal

Manchester United fans have been going gaga ever since it was announced that the legendary Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had joined the club. The forward was signed on a free transfer after his contract ended with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The journeyman centre-forward has announced that he is coming to Old Trafford on a one-year deal and that he is ready to take up the new challenge. However, here are 3 reasons why we need not be so optimistic about the move:

1. His age

At 36 years of age, Zlatan lacks the pace or movement that could make a difference in those critical moments. He might have scored tonnes of goals for PSG, but the English League is a completely different ball game and it is something that he hasn’t experienced in his long, distinguished career. Given the short nature of his contract, he won’t even have the time to settle down and if it goes wrong, it will be very hard to even bench someone like him which would in a way, harm the growth of talented academy graduates like Marcus Rashford and Ashley Fletcher.

2. His ego

Zlatan carries massive ego, and that has led to numerous one-offs between him and his teammates and even, coaches in the past. That kind of mentality could potentially be detrimental to a United dressing looking to regain it’s lost swagger.

3. His form

Ibra was in decent form for PSG last year in a league which is less competitive than the Premier League, but he flopped miserably at the Euros and didn’t even net a single goal. That statistic could be damning since it would mean that we are signing someone who is in clear decline, and will be nothing but dead weight for the squad, ala Radamel Falcao.

However, one hopes nothing like that transpires and we get to see the Ibra we all love and admire!
