Why This PSG Star Will Add A Major Boost To The Manchester United Line Up (Not Zlatan)

Chris Smalling was Manchester United’s standout performer at the back last season, and was also selected as the Player’s Player Of the Year. However, United does need another solid center back to partner him at the back, as Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are both extremely unreliable and Daley Blind will probably be sold, if reports are to be believed. In comes Marquinhos, the 22 year old defender who has been making quite a name for himself in France.

Stat Attack:

In the French Ligue 1, the Brazilian has won 32 tackles last season with a success rate of 48%. He has made 38 interceptions, 98 clearances and 16 blocks, created 3 chances and has an average pass accuracy of 93%. He has also featured in the Champions League 6 times, which is a big achievement for someone so young, given he has to compete with the likes of Thiago Silva and David Luiz for a slot.

Tactics:

Marquinhos has repeatedly made it clear that he would like to play for an English side, and he will not be short of suitors. He is excellent at reading the game, has brilliant ball distribution skills and is physically much more commanding than Blind. If United go for him, he will add a different dimension to our side.

Competition:

With John Stones and Raphael Varane both having apparently denied Chelsea a possible transfer due to absence of Champions League football next season, the Blues are likely to court Marquinhos. Under John Terry, he will also get a great role model. However, if Ed Woodward wants him, he can get him. Not only will the prospect of working under Jose Mourinho excite the youngster, but he is also guaranteed a starting spot. The Portugese prefers a mobile and physically imposing centre back partnership, and Smalling and Marquinhis would make a dream duo.

Transfer feasibility: 6.5/10
