Zlatan Ibrahimović Might Sound Fancy, But Why Manchester United Should Avoid His Signing

Speculations about Zlatan Ibrahimovic making a move to Manchester United are rising day by day since Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the manager at Old Trafford. Sure, the club wouldn’t mind going for the world class Swedish striker and that too for free /16

The fee for Zlatan might be too much for most of the clubs, but Manchester United definitely can afford him.

Stats 2015/16

Match Appearances: 51

Goals Scored: 52

Assists: 16

Bookings: 4

Shots Per Game: 4.8

Characteristics:

  1. Accurate passing
  2. Likes to take long shots.
  3. Good at direct free-kicks.
  4. Clinical finisher
  5. Likes to do layoffs.
  6. Strong at aerial duels.
  7. Lacks offside awareness.
  8. Low work rate at defence.
  9. Likes to keep more ball possession.

The stats and abilities of Ibra are startling, and very few other players can compete with that. The 34-year-old striker still has the aggression and stamina in him to be counted as one of the best in the football world today. He has had a notable success at every club he has played in. Even though he is arrogant and overconfident, he delivers what is expected on the pitch and has never failed, for both club and country.

But is he the right choice for the Red Devils to go for?

No! A very unpopular opinion, but the most practical one. Clearly, apart from the statistics, and his astonishing skills and abilities, the former PSG striker has lost his pace enough to struggle in the Premier League. And even if he still had it in him, scoring 50+ goals in England’s top tier football is next to impossible. It is doable in a league with no competition (Ligue 1, of course). And realistically, he would struggle to score even 15-20 goals if he is indeed going to play for Manchester United next season and that could frustrate him just like Di Maria.

Well, the reasons don’t just stop there. If a player like Ibrahimovic is to be lured to the club, he would have to be promised as a regular starter for the team, which can be really risky as one never knows what and when goes wrong with the performance of a 34-year-old player.

Moreover, his continuous presence in the starting line-up will ruin the progressing form and career of our very own upcoming star, Marcus Rashford who has impressed the club and the fans since he made his debut for the club against Midtjylland in the Europa League.

And given his recent debut goal from his first shot for England, it is definite that the form and display of the youngster is no luck but sheer talent and hardwork, and shouldn’t be taken for granted by the club.

Let’s see what Mourinho plans. He certainly knows better.
