Manchester United has signed the first player for the next season. You will be forgiven if you do not know his name as the Republic of Ireland defender, is just 15-year-old and will be joining United on a three-year deal.
The player is currently the captain of the Ireland under-16 team and was named the player of the year last month. He is super excited to be part of Manchester United and has confirmed that information in an interview with Waterford Sport.
Manchester United has had a long tradition of bringing in gifted youngsters and developing them to become key players for the club and we can hope for the same with O’Connor. Louis Van Gaal has been heavily criticized for his slow style of play but he has given ample opportunity to the youngsters and this makes him popular in some old United fans for the traditional approach.
O’Connor said,” I suppose for me in the end it wasn’t a very difficult decision to make. From the moment I went over to Manchester United, I just knew that there was no point me thinking about signing for any other club and I always wanted to go there. I want to develop as a football player and I want to become the best player that I can be by signing for one of the biggest clubs in world football. It was the best place for me to go. It’s the place with the best coaches and the best facilities so in that way, it was easy.”
