3 Reasons Reasons Why United Can Overtake Arsenal For The 4th Place

Manchester United have four games left in the league season, and they are currently placed at 5th position on the Table, with a game in hand over Arsenal who are as always, at 4th. The difference between the two sides is 5 points, but with Arsene’s side stuttering and van Gaal’s men winning 4 games on the trot, the momentum is clearly with us. Finishing in a Champions League spot and bagging at least one trophy were the objectives at the start of the season, at least for me, and although it has been trying at times, we seem to be finally on the correct path at the moment. Here are 3 reasons why I believe United have a better shot at that last Champions League spot than Arsenal:

1. Rooney’s form

For probably the first time in his career, Wayne Rooney has come back from an injury and hit top form right away, as his performances against Aston Villa and Everton showed. He was extremely composed in midfield, picked outstanding passes and controlled the game’s tempo extremely well. With able support from the likes of Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick, United’s midfield seems to be in a far better shape than Arsenal’s, who are overly dependent on Mesut Ozil. The German had a terrific start to his campaign, but has made only 3 assists in 2016, and his form has been downhill ever since. The likes of Ramsey, Cazorla and Walcott have been poor as well, meaning the Gunners do not have a reliable creative spark anymore.

2. Rashford and Martial’s golden period

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have both been exceptional this season, and together they have been involved in 31 goals for Manchester United. On the other hand, Arsenal’s forward line consisting of the much maligned Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck have been inconsistent and out of touch all year long.

3. The psychological factor

” Arsene’s Arsenal play great football but fail to produce when it matters the most” — this line has probably been uttered in some form or the other a gazillion times by now, and it still holds true. Arsenal went from competing for the league title to battling for fourth place once again, and most Gooners want their manager to be replaced for the next season. On the other hand, this United team has battled against all odds, severe criticism and terrifying lows to ensure they are where they are right now, and clearly the psychological boost is with us. I hope we can make that count in this final stretch of the season!
