Opinion: Can This Rising Star Displace Rooney From The Manchester United’s Startling Xl?

Marcus Rashford’s sudden rise in his career after few consecutive impressive attacking show has been good news for Manchester United. The 18-year-old footballer is being backed up by many as a promising star at the club. But it really isn’t a fine gossip for our skipper.

Wayne Rooney is still out injured and has not played since Red Devils lost to Sunderland away from home, missing ten games for the club.

His absence by default made Anthony Martial the main forward. After Anthony Martial had a hamstring problem in the warm-up before their Europa League clash with Midtjylland, Louis van Gaal gave the youth player, Marcus Rashford his chance to shine at a big platform. The 18-year-old had his dream start for the club as he struck twice on his debut. Rashford is a raw and fresh talent but has the physical and mental attributes to be a top-class striker and van Gaal has not been afraid to give youngsters opportunities.

Rashford took the football world by storm when he struck twice again in his second game against the Gunners, disallowing them to move up in the table.

Even though Rashford is not striking goals as he did in his starting games, he has made a huge impact on the field as a forward. His pace and balance unsettles the defence of the opposition. Given more time and experience, the 18-year-old can be very threatening against the top-class defenders.

Marcus Rashford has also been backed-up for his position and part in the England national team. The upcoming starlet has been a very promising player in the eyes of fans and critics in spite of making only eight appearances so far.

Speaking of fans and critics, should Rooney be replaced by the young forward?

It’d be a very tough and crucial decision to make, that’s for sure. But definitely not the correct one.

Wayne Rooney is undoubtedly one the most experienced player in the current squad along with the German midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

His goal drought went for a long time but ended at the beginning of this year as he struck fair amount of goals before getting injured in the practice session.

Wazza is one of those players who do a lot for their team which mostly goes unnoticed. His work rate on defence and attack is higher than most. The stamina and strength keeps Manchester United in game even when they are chasing a match.

Marcus Rashford maybe a better goalscorer than Wazza currently, but that doesn’t mean he can replace the future club legend so straightforwardly. The chances created, the passes delivered, and the occasional goals scored by Rooney impacts greater than any forward player’s effort in the team.

Maybe after a few years, Rashford might be completely capable of replacing Rooney but in the sudden future, it does not seem logical to bench a player who can still give so much to the team.
