Should Manchester United Go For This £55 Million Rated Super Duo From La Liga?

Manchester United Transfers 2021-22

Red Devils have been involved in yet another transfer rumour. The Manchester United boss wants to sign Mikel San Jose and Oscar De Marcos from Athletic Bilbao.

The Spanish duo has made a combined 500 appearances for the club.

Manchester United are rumoured to have a £55million bid lined-up for the midfield pair.

Mikel San Jose

Position: Defensive Midfield, Centre-Back

Age: 26

Height: 6’1

Nationality: Spain

Characteristics:

  1. Good at aerial duels.
  2. Likes to tackle.
  3. Makes more forward passes.
  4. Not a good shooter.

San Jose has been a consistent player for his club this season. He has scored one goal and assisted thrice this season. The Spanish footballer has completed 837 passes this season with a passing accuracy of 77%.

Oscar De Marcos

Position: Midfielder (centre, left and right), Centre-back

Age: 26

Height: 5’9

Nationality: Spain

Characteristics:

  1. Early Crosser
  2. Good amount of defensive contribution.
  3. Weak at passing.

De Marcos has made a total of 28 appearances in La Liga this season has won 57 tackles this season with a success rate of 47%. He has made 80 interceptions, 64 clearances and three blocks.
After being criticized since his arrival at Old Trafford, van Gaal has been active on the transfers for the club and the scouts have been on a regular look out, resulting in talks with many players from different leagues. There have been many decent players who are currently linked to a move to Manchester United and with a fine chance of making a significant impact on the club.

However, the Athletic Bilbao pair can be well criticized if they do in fact, move to the Old Trafford.

Manchester United already has enough midfielders and can manage very well with them. We know how harshly the club of this stature has struggled since the departure of Sir Alex but that doesn’t mean LvG can fancy his chances on a pair which isn’t even that good.

Well, both San Jose and De Marcos have performed very well in the La Liga for their club but it is very doubtful that they could have the same impact for the 20 times EPL winners.

Moreover, the asking price is too much for the Spanish duo. That kind of amount can be used to sign better midfielders and that too from the Premier League itself. That is, if United really needs to get a hold on one or two midfielders.
